Shabbat Hagadol Message From Rabbi Hauer
|
Rabbi Moshe Hauer
|
We have had almost a week to reflect upon the powerful experience of last Motzei Shabbat, when with Hashem’s help the massive airstrikes from Iran were successfully intercepted and repelled by Israel and its allies.
We marvel at the gift of the outstanding defensive technologies we had available; at the near-perfect deployment of those technologies during the attack; and at the ready cooperation and partnership of the United States and other allies. At a time when we were feeling exceptionally alone, others came and stood with us as Hashem spread over us סוכת רחמים חיים ושלום, a protective canopy of mercy, life, and peace.
As we assemble this Shabbat Hagadol, whether at our dining room tables or in our shuls, let us take a moment to reflect on this miracle. It is certainly not our strength and the might of our hands that achieved this. שירו לו זמרו לו שיחו בכל נפלאותיו. “Sing to Him, make music to Him, tell of all His wonders.”
מזמור לתודה הריעו לד’ כל הארץ … בואו שעריו בתודה חצרותיו בתהילה הודו לו ברכו שמו
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courtyards with praise; give thanks to Him, bless His name.

Maot Chitim 2024 |
The past several months have been difficult for all of us, as we have witnessed the horrors of October 7 and the ensuing war, and watched the rise of local antisemitism with dismay. For many, the promise of Pesach is a welcome beacon of hope. But there are many people in our community who anticipate Pesach with dread. Already struggling to keep financially afloat during the rest of the year, the additional costs of Pesach are simply too much. They need your help.

Klal Yisrael is being attacked and challenged from all sides. Some threaten us physically, others attack our moral standing, yet others try to block us from having the resources to protect ourselves.

Is There Such a Thing as Lashon Tov? |
The rabbis said much about lashon hara, but virtually nothing about its corollary, lashon tov, “good speech.” The phrase does not appear in either the Talmud Bavli or the Yerushalmi. If it is a sin to speak badly about people, is it a mitzvah to speak well of them?

The Art of Order and Chaos |
As we turn more and more pages, we begin to realize that the Haggadah is far from an ordered story. Not our usual way of storytelling, it is meta-storytelling. It is retelling how the Exodus has been told before.
