STEM + Art & Music

Summer's in Session with Teach NYS and Teach NJ

Check out this Instagram reel to learn more about our STEM programs in New York and New Jersey.

STEM Program in NY Gets a Boost

Nonpublic schools in NY benefit from a robust STEM program. What started as a $5 million program in 2017 has grown an astonishing 15-fold since then. For the upcoming school year, the NY State budget set aside $75.5 million in STEM funding.

Art & Music Program Renewed for a Second Year

Inspired by the success of the STEM program, Teach NYS advocated for and helped secure a brand-new $5 million art and music program. The program is now available for K-12 students in nonpublic schools, cementing last year’s art and music inaugural funding allocation, which comes as part of the larger, historic $470 million in nonpublic school funding passed by the the New York State FY25 budget.

NJ DOE Awards STEM Funding to Our Schools

The STEM NJ program, which is entering its fifth year, is funded by the NJ Department of Education (DOE) and provides qualified public school STEM teachers to yeshivas and Jewish day schools, ensuring high-quality education at no extra cost to our schools or their families.

The NJ DOE recently released nonpublic school STEM funding awards for the coming year, which has increased by over $700,000 since last year. With $2.2 million allocated for the coming year alone, New Jersey's yeshivas and Jewish day schools will continue to offer amazing STEM courses, significantly saving on teaching expenses while building confidence in students and inspiring them to develop new skills.

See what program manager Adam Katz has to say about it.

SECURITY

At a Glance: Security Wins This Year

Since October 7, Teach Coalition's Project Protect has made an incredible impact around the country, securing $310 million in state and local funding for Jewish schools, shuls, and other nonprofits.

  • NY: $124.8M
  • NJ: $40.6M
  • FL: $30M
  • PA: $24.1M
  • MD: $10.5M
  • CA: $80M
  • NV: $750K

Cruising FL's and MD's Pilot Transportation Program

The school year is starting with more children on buses! For the first time ever, state-funded transportation programs are now available for our families in both Florida and Maryland.

In Florida, $10 million was secured for all yeshiva and Jewish day school students as part of the security funding bill that was recently passed for Florida Jewish day schools for the 2024-25 school year.

Participating families are receiving a minimum $1,200 credit per child toward the cost of busing.

“With the rise of antisemitism in the country, I have been very worried about my children’s safety, especially while at their Jewish school. The new funding for security and transportation has helped alleviate those fears because I know that my children’s school has the resources it needs to keep my children safe.”

The Power of the Jewish Vote: New Poll

Thanks to our voting efforts and other voter mobilization efforts nationwide, the Jewish vote has proven to be a force to be reckoned with come November and beyond.

This reality is further crystalized by a recent poll conducted by Teach Coalition and OU-Advocacy which shows that Jewish voters in NY and PA have undergone a significant shirt relative to 2020. According to these findings, no other demographic in American politics today has undergone such a dramatic political realignment.

Join us for an exclusive webinar this Wednesday, September 4 at 8pm as our founder and CEO, Maury Litwack, and OU-Advocacy's Nathan Diament discuss the results of this poll.

This is a unique opportunity to be informed and understand the impact you have as a voter.

Teach FL Enrollment Study

Enrollment is up! This study by OJEPR shows that between 2007-2023, Jewish enrollment in Florida Jewish nonpublic schools grew by 58%.

There is also evidence to suggest that Florida's state scholarship program, which has steadily grown since 2016, has improved retention and attracted new families from out of state. Read all about it here and watch this reel to learn more.
